At its origins, Five Element acupuncture is an oral tradition.
Transmitted through experience and example, it is based on learning
through the senses. While the basics of the didactic work are written
down, the majority of the learning involves developing the heart, the
intuition and the senses of the practitioner as a complement to the
analytical process. As part of this process, students' self-development
and inner work become an important part of becoming a practitioner.
UNIQUE PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Your experience at the Academy may be quite different from what you may have encountered in other educational institutions.
Our program is uniquely structured relative to other accredited programs nationwide. The most
distinguishing feature is that during the first two academic years of full-time study, classroom
instruction is presented in periodic 14– to 18–day teaching intensives, instead of the customary
weekly classes offered at most other schools.
This teaching structure permits students from all over the country to enroll in our program without
having to relocate physically to Florida during the first two academic years of the program. Many
students who live in states where there are no other accredited acupuncture schools nearby find
our structure ideal for their needs.
We currently enroll students not just from the southeastern U.S. but from every corner of the
country, including California, most of the New England states, Washington, Oregon and even
Alaska. In fact, most of our students are based in states other than Florida.
Intensives typically occur once every four months. Non-local students are required to travel to
Florida for the entire duration of these 14– to 18–day teaching intensives. There are usually 12
days of instruction and two days off during each intensive. After the intensives are over, students
return home, where they complete homework, other intersession assignments and additional
corequisite courses.
The heart of the M.Ac. program is the clinical year in residency in Gainesville. Students must
be prepared to relocate physically to the Gainesville area during the last year of the program.
This time is spent in the Academy’s teaching clinic, where students work with experienced Five
Element clinicians, gaining in-depth proficiency in treating patients. Students also complete
other required course work during this time.
Please see Appendix A for a detailed breakdown of the Academy’s current course listing.
